Paediatrics (childrens) foot & leg
problems

- we generally associate foot
problems particularly with older people but children can suffer with many
different foot & ankle problems. Also, many problems experienced as an
adult can often be traced back to childhood.
- children can have all sorts of
foot & leg problems including : flat feet, high-arched feet, pigeon
toes, weak ankles, bow legs, knock knees & the list goes on.
- many foot problems in children
will
correct through normal development. By age 7, most problems should have
corrected.

- if a child is in pain, they
should see a Podiatrist. If the parent is concerned with the development of
either the feet or legs, they should also see a Podiatrist. This does not
mean that treatment is required, but it is far better to have the child
properly assessed to rule out any more serious problems

- the care of the childs feet & leg problems will vary according to the condition but treatments can
include advice on footwear, use of various types of supports & braces
through to the use of plaster casts & even surgery.
Podiatrists specialise in the care of the foot & ankle.
Whether it be a minor or major problem, see a Podiatrist in regard to any foot
or ankle problem.
