Sever's Disease

There are numerous causes of heel pain but one of the most common is Sever's Disease. This condition occurs most frequently in children between the ages of 8 & 14 who play a lot of sport that involves running & jumping. The pain is located at the back of the heel bone.

The pain is due to strain on the "growth plate" of the heel bone.

Early diagnosis & intervention by one of our Podiatrist's is crucial. This can prevent Sever's Disease from becoming debilitating & requiring complete rest from running activities.

Treatment includes:

  • rest/ice
  • exercises
  • footwear modification
  • supporting the foot & heel bone including the use of prescription orthotics

At Footmed, we are experienced in effectively treating these problems. Please call us to make an appointment.
